Types of assessments
Psychological assessments may include:
What to expect
Once a referral is accepted, time is taken to gather relevant background information to ensure the assessment is thorough and meaningful. This may include school reports, previous assessments and reports from other health professionals. Conversations may also take place with parents, caregivers, school staff or other key supports to build a full picture of the individual’s experiences, strengths and needs.
Assessments can take place in schools, organisational offices or one of the CatholicCare offices across the state, depending on what feels most appropriate and comfortable.
Following the assessment, a detailed written report is provided. This outlines observations, assessment results, conclusions and, where relevant, a diagnosis. Practical, personalised recommendations are included to support learning, wellbeing and daily life at school, work and home.
A feedback session is then offered to talk through the findings, answer questions and discuss next steps. The aim is for every child, adolescent and adult to feel understood, supported and clear about the way forward.
Psychological Assessments are provided by Registered and Provisionally Registered Psychologists for children aged six years and over, adolescents and adults. Assessments are designed to build a clear understanding of strengths, challenges and support needs, helping individuals and families move forward with confidence.
Where appropriate, additional screening tools may be included if other difficulties are suspected, such as neurodevelopmental differences or mental health conditions. Any additional screening is discussed with you as part of the assessment process.
Referrals can be faxed to (03) 7049 4064 or emailed directly to the psychology team at psychology.referrals@aohtas.org.au

Assessment services are provided on a fee‑for‑service basis. Privately funded assessments require a $500 deposit, with the remaining balance payable prior to the report feedback appointment. Schools and organisations will be invoiced following completion of the report.
Additional screening tools may be recommended during intake and discussed with you if fees are likely to exceed those listed. Additional screeners are charged between $150.00 and $300.00.
Additional assessment‑related services are charged at $195.00 per hour.
Where travel is required, this is charged at $90.00 per hour.
