From 16 to 23 April, communities across Tasmania came together to celebrate Youth Week 2026, a statewide initiative recognising the creativity, leadership and contributions of young people, and the vital role they play within our wider community.
This year’s theme, Our Voice. Our Vision. Our Future., was selected by young people themselves, highlighting the value of their ideas and their role in shaping strong, connected communities. Across the week, events and activities reflected this message, creating space for youth voices to be heard and celebrated throughout the state.
CatholicCare Tasmania was proud to be part of Youth Week 2026, standing alongside young people as they shared their creativity, perspectives and hopes for the future.
During the week, the team attended the Youth Day event on the Glenorchy City Council lawns, joining young people, community organisations and local partners in a celebration of youth voice, creativity and connection. The theme resonated strongly throughout the day and closely aligned with the organisation’s commitment to walking alongside young people with hope, authenticity and courage.
At the event, CatholicCare Tasmania facilitated Art Lab: Wear Your Vision, inviting participants to design their own T-shirts as a creative expression of what matters most to them. The activity encouraged confidence, conversation and youth-led storytelling, fostering genuine connection and meaningful self-expression.
The event provided a valuable opportunity to celebrate community connection while highlighting the strength, insight and creativity that young people bring to Tasmania. Sincere thanks are extended to the Youth Network of Tasmania, supported by the Tasmanian Government through the Youth Week Tasmania 2026 Small Grants Program, for enabling participation in this event and for their continued commitment to amplifying young voices.
Youth Week was also celebrated onsite at AK Young Women’s Accommodation, where young people took part in a creative activity night, decorating banners, T-shirts and bags inspired by the Youth Week theme. It was encouraging to see the pride they took in their artwork and the confidence they showed in expressing their voices and vision.
CatholicCare Tasmania also congratulates Glenorchy City Council on the announcement of its new Youth Hub in the heart of Glenorchy. This important initiative will provide a safe and welcoming space for young people to connect, access support, participate in programs or simply spend time together, helping to carry the energy and momentum of Youth Week well beyond the celebrations.
