Throughout Anti-Poverty Week 2025, CatholicCare Tasmania teams across the state joined forces with community organisations to raise awareness about the impact of poverty on families, individuals, and children.
Launceston: Civic Square Stall
On Tuesday 14 October, our Launceston team held a public display in Civic Square, drawing attention to the challenges faced by those living in poverty and the ways we can work together to create change. The event was well attended and sparked discussions with community members and local organisations.
Hobart – Elizabeth Street Mall Stall
On Wednesday 15 October, our Hobart team hosted a public display in the Elizabeth Street Mall, inviting passers-by to engage with the realities of poverty and the importance of community-led responses. The event featured speakers from Vinnies Tasmania, CatholicCare Tasmania, Salvation Army Tasmania, Hobart City Mission and the Tasmanian Council of Social Services (TasCOSS), who shared insights into the challenges facing Tasmanians and the collaborative efforts underway to address them.
We were grateful to co-chair these events with Vinnies Tasmania, whose partnership helped amplify the message and reach of Anti-Poverty Week across the state.
CatholicCare Tasmania remains committed to reducing disadvantage through person-centred and place-based approaches, aiming to break the cycle of poverty by addressing both its symptoms and root causes. Our response is driven by compassion and the belief that everyone deserves the chance to live safely, with dignity and hope.
