Program Overview

The No Interest Loan Scheme (NILS) provides no‑interest loans to eligible Tasmanians to help cover the cost of essential items and services. Loans range from $300 to $2,000 or up to $3000 for a rental bond and can be used for everyday needs such as:

  • Car repairs and registration
  • Household essentials
  • Education expenses
  • Medical and dental costs
  • Rental bonds and council rates

Who is it for

You may be eligible if you:

  • Have a healthcare card, pension card or DVA card, or earn a gross income of $70,000 (before tax) for a single person or $100,000 (before tax) for people who are dependent or have dependents.
  • Have stable accommodation (exceptions may be considered — call to discuss your situation)
  • Have the capacity to repay the loan, with repayments capped at $40 per fortnight

Access to this program

NILS loans are interest‑free, with repayments of up to $40 per fortnight.
