Emma Walkem joins CatholicCare as Safeguarding Coordinator
Emma’s previous work as a solicitor has equipped her with the necessary skills for understanding, interpreting, and applying the relevant safeguarding legislation. Emma has also worked as an investigator for the Tasmanian Office of the Ombudsman and a large national investigations firm, enjoying the challenges and rewards of the role. With two young children of her own, she has a strong desire to keep children and young people safe and secure.
In her new position, Emma will lead safeguarding practices across CatholicCare Tasmania, and ensure the organisation has a safeguarding framework in place that is compliant with relevant standards and accreditation.
“I would like to see CCT continue to evolve its practices as it leads the way with safeguarding,” she said. “Through CCT’s priority and investment in safeguarding, we are helping create a safer community for children and young people.”
CatholicCare Tasmania is committed to ensuring that all children and young people in our care are safe. A key priority is to successfully embed the new Reportable Conduct Scheme into our organisation, as well as to continue to drive safeguarding within CCT through education and increased awareness.
Emma is proud to be part of CCT and to share her expertise during this critical time of implementing the Reportable Conduct Scheme.
Welcome to the team, Emma!
